Leo is one of the earliest recogniezed constellation. It's lying between Cancer and Virgo and according to Greek Mythology it reminds the Nemean Lion killed by Hercules as the first of his twelve labors. Leo contains many bright stars, many of which were individually identified by the ancients, as Regulus, Denebola and Algieba, and also many bright galaxies: Messier 65, Messier 66, Messier 95 and so on. People born under the Leo sign are proud, lavish, passionate and trusted; but they are also egocentric, selfish, quick-tempered and hot-blooded. Leos are natural born kings. Which colour suits them better than gold?

Happy Monday!! It's time to take a look at the starry sky above our heads! This month's constellation is the Cancer (that means crab in Latin), a medium-size constellation, but is the dimmest among Zodiac. Its stars are rather faint but it contains some solar sistems and the most famous open cluster of the nother Emisphere: Praesepe (M44), the manger, or the Beehive. According to greek mythology, there was a gigantic crab Karkinos, that bit Hercules while he was fighting the many-headed Hydra. Hercules crushed it and the goddes Hera, who has sent Karkinos against Hercules place the crab among the stars.

Anche per questo mese è arrivato il momento di alzare la testa ed osservare un po' più da vicino le stelle. Oggi tocca alla Costellazione del Cancro, la meno visibile di tutto lo Zodiaco, ma la più ricca di corpi interessanti per gli astronomi, che vi hanno trovato alcuni sistemi solari (quello di Cancri 55 possiede un pianeta simile alla Terra) ed il più fmaoso ammasso stellare aperto di tutto l'emisfero settentrionale: Praesepe o l'Alveare (M 44).
Secondo la mitologia greca, hera invio un granchio gigantesco contro Ercole, intento a pestare di brutto brutto l'Idra di Lerna. Purtroppo per il granchio, Ercole lo fece a pezzi pestandolo ben bene, ma Hera volle ringraziare la creatura e lo pose tra le stelle.

Mi scuso per essere arrivata solo adesso, ma ho avuto dei problemi col wifi per tutta la giornata. Oggi torno a riaffacciarmi assieme alle ragazze del Pattern Wednesday perché si gioca con un motivo prettamente estivo: l'anguria, aka sua Maestà il Cocomero.
Vi ho già detto quanto io sbarelli quando si parla di anguria?

...and below my manicure. I've tried to make a nice watermelon's slices carousel, but the hot and humid summer afternoon failed me. But I've made a sticker! I've used wet'n'wild Tropicalia, a lovely flamingo crelly, as a base; then I made some random smiles mixing a drop of Misa Quirky Smile and P2 999 Aloha Dream. I added some black spots with an old NYC striper and that's it. I've let my sticker dry over a plastic bag and I peeled off a couple of hours later.

Ho provato a disegnare le fettine di anguria, ma il caldo afoso di oggi mi ha tradito. Così, ho realizzato uno sticker! Fregato!!
Ho usato wet'n'wild Tropicalia (un crelly color rosa fenicottero) come base; poi ho mischiato una goccia di Misa Quirky Smile e una di P2 999 Aloha Dream per le bucce e con un vecchio striper della NYC ho disegnato i semi. Ho lasciato asciugare su una busta di plastica per un paio d'ore, ed ecco fatto.
Watermelons pedlars are a summer custom in Rome, a real tradition went miss. When I was a child, watermelon pedlars stayed at the corner of the streets, screaming "Taja ch'è rosso!" ("Cut it! It's red!!") that in roman slang means "Come here! My watermelons are the sweetest on the block!". When I was a child Taja ch'è rosso was the vernacular translation of Ovid's Carpe Diem. Today the watermelon is red. Tomorrow, who knows? Watermelon is so sweet and refreshing that I could die for! I was born in the hottest summer of last century, so I remember there was always a watermelon or two at every birthday I have celebrated. I hope my idea likes you. Adoro le angurie! Qui a Roma sono un simbolo dell'estate, loro ed i cocomerari, i venditori ambulanti che si appostano agli angoli delle strade coi loro baracchini strillando (una volta) "Taja ch'è rosso!". Cioè, l'anguria era buona da mangiare. Oggigiorno s'è perso quest'uso, ma fino a quando ero piccola io, l'espressione Taja ch'è rosso era la versione vernacolare dell'ovidiano Carpe Diem. Oggi è rosso, domani, chissà.
Ma a parte questa digressione, adoro il cocomero, perché fa subito estate e quindi, il mio compleanno. Non rammento un compleanno senza abbuffata di anguria, giuro!
E parlando di angurie, che ne direste di dare un'occhiata ai lavori delle mie compagne? Venite con me? Tranquilli, porto il cocomero!!

It's Friday and I'm stewing for the new plates @Born Pretty Store! Before I check the website to purchase some of them (making a huge massacre on my bank account), let me introduce to you the weekly finish: textured. Textured is kind of that dries rough with bumpy finish. You could find textured polishes with glitter (OPI, KIKO, Zoya) or not (KIKO, Barry M, WjCon, China Glaze). Every brand has his own way to call his textured nail polishes, so you could find strange names like "sugar", "sandy", "pixie" and so on, but don't panic: we are always talking about textured.
Finalmente è venerdì e non vedo l'ora di correre sul sito Born Pretty Store per acquistare alcune plate che ho adocchiato e che sembrerebbero davvero carine. Prima di fare danni, parliamo del finish odierno, il textured.
Come definire un textured? Non si riconosce dalla boccetta, ma una volta asciutto. È opaco, ma fa le grinze (non trovo altre parole!), come il battistrada degli penumatici. Esistono textured semplici o con i glitter, ed ogni marca ha il suo nome in codice per questo finish, come 'sugar', 'sandy', 'pixie', ma niente paura: sempre di textured si parla!
I own lots of textured crèmes, as I call them, because I'm not a sparkle girl and I do not like dealing with glitters. I'm glad if I can avoid them. China Glaze Bump in The Night is a plain black textured polish. It's a one coater, as many textured are. It lasts forever. It dries in a blink of an eye. It allows me to skip the top coat step (ok, let's be honest: I always skip the top coat step, but in this case it's not necessary!). Sadly, it stains, so do not forget to use a pell-off base under this baby, or to rub vaselline or some drops of cuticle oil before to grab your remover.
I know you'll see some sparkle of lights over my nails, but there are not glitters at all. It's only love the reflex of my lights, do you believe that?
Io vado matta per i textured, e ne possiedo un discreto numero; quelli che preferisco sono di gran lunga le versioni senza glitter. D'altro canto, adoro le lacche. Che vi aspettavate?
China Glaze Bump in The Night è uno smalto textured nero dal colore pieno. Amo questo smalto per i suoi pregi. One coater. Highlander. Asciuga quasi all'istante. Posso saltare a cuor leggero il momento del top coat (ok, lo faccio comunque, ma qui non è davvero necessario!). Il suo unico difetto è che macchia in maniera mala (termine tecnico), quindi non dimenticate di usare una base peel-off o di stendere della vasellina o un paio di gocce di olio per cuticole prima di toglierlo.
Il riflesso che vedete è quello delle lampade. Non sembra anche a voi una gettata di catrame appena steso. Figo, né?
Textured is a very particular finish. It becomes very popular in the last couple of years, but you like it or you dislike it. There is not a middle road.
Gli smalti textured sono diventati molto popolari negli ultimi anni, ma non mettono d'accordo tutte le smaltare. O si amano o si odiano, non ci sono vie di mezzo.
