Today I want to share with you my humble opinion about the new essence's gel system, called the gel that is arrived this spring on our stores's shelves.

Ed eccoci a Mercoledì, Fanciulle all'ascolto. Oggi vi parlo della mia esperienza con il nuovo essence the gel, un sistema proposto dalla casa tedesca per avere unghie lucide come il gel senza usare la lampada UV.

First of all, I must say that here in Italy when someone calls something "gel" it doesn't mean "jelly". "Gel" is something as glossy as the UV gel you could achieve into a nail salon. Essence assures us that this brand new system should replace the last year's "gel at home" without using an UV lamp.
Just my two cents about this.
I didn't purchased the 'gel at home' system, because in the past I have had the UV french nails for four long years and I'm tired of it. But, let's play Devil's advocate and just imagine to have bought the UV lamp, the base, the colors and the top coat. You did it last year. Nowadays, there is not a back up for your gel at home nails. It's unfair. I think that such system should be supported for three or four years, at least. I know, essence is a teen-ager targeted brand, so I cannot excpect that their products have a long-term schedule but it would be very nice for their costumers.

Un paio di anni fa la essence lanciò il sistema gel at home, che permetteva, grazie all'acquisto di una piccola lampada UV ad un prezzo conveniente, di poter avere a casa propria delle unghie come quelle dei più costosi saloni di bellezza. Adesso potete mettere in soffitta lampada, basi, colori e top coat perché quella tecnologia non sarà più sopportata.
Onestamente, questa cosa mi scoccia.
Non ho acquistato alcun prodotto di quelli summenzionati, perché ho portato il gel quando ancora non andava di moda e me ne sono stancata dopo quattro lunghi anni. Però, se dovessi mettermi nei panni di chi ha acquistato lampada e necessaire, beh, mi scoccerebbe. Mi rendo conto che essence parla principalmente alle adolescenti, e se non ti rinnovi spesso non sei attraente, ma sarebbe carino se i loro prodotti durassero almeno tre o quattro anni sugli scaffali, specie quando coinvolgono tecnologie più innovative rispetto al semplice smalto e al top coat.

Anyway.
The gel nail polish is a three easy steps system that should allows you to achieve a shiny and gel look nails. I carefully followed the instructions and this is my opinion.
First step, I used the appropiate base coat. Sadly, I have picked a broken brushed bottle, so it was very complicated layering the base coat.

I've waited until the base coat was dry (honestly, I've waited too long), then I used two coats of #39 blue bubble di blue, a light sky blue crème (I showed it last monday, do you remember?). The brush is wide, and easy to manage. I layered two coats to achieve a perfect homogeneity, but if you use a thick layer you must resolve this step in just one coat. The picture above show you how shiny and glossy is without the top coat.

The gel nail è un sistema in tre punti che ci consentirà di avere unghie come quelle dei saloni di bellezza senza andare al salone di bellezza e senza usare la lampada UV. Basta seguire le istruzioni (cosa che ho fatto). Vi racconto la mia opinione spassionata.
Per prima cosa, ho usato la base specifica su unghie asciutte e pulite ed ho aspettato che fosse asciutta. Al solito, mi è capitata la boccetta col pennello anarchico. è stato più complicato del normale, ma ce l'ho fatta.

I tempi di attesa sono stati 8troppo) lunghi, ma ho fatto la brava ed ho aspettato prima di stendere due mani di #39 blue bubble di blue, una lacca celeste che vi ho mostrato lunedì scorso. Il pennello è a lingua di gatto, ma non esagerato. È stato facile stendere entrambe le passate, ma se avete la mano pesante, datene una e sarete felici lo stesso. Qui sopra, potete vedere quanto sia luminoso lo smalto senza il top coat.

I took these photos few minutes after the top coat step. How shiny is it! This glossy effect mitigates the very next day, but your nails keep shining for days. I've baked my homemade pizza, I cleaned my house, I washed the dishes, I lived my normal life and my nails was always shiny!
I love it!
If I can suggest an easy, easy improvement to essence, is having a clear bottle instead a metal one. It's very cool managing silver metal bottles (the bottle itself is like a pocket mirror!), but I can't notice when my top coat is running out.

Ed ecco che le cose cambiano. Perché entra in scena lui, il top coat! Lucidissimo, favoloso e ad asciugatura rapida. Avvolge le unghie in una pellicola che protegge davvero dai segni del lenzuolo, dalle scheggiature e dallo sbiadimento. L'effetto 'glossy' si attenua il giorno dopo, ma resiste indefesso per quattro giorni. In cui ho continuato la mia vita di tutti i giorni facendo le cose che faccio tutti i giorni (usando la tastiera, impastando la pizza, pulendo casa, lavando i piatti...).
Lo amo! E vi parla una che salta a piedi pari il momento del top coat!
L'unica miglioria che apporterei riguarda la boccetta, ché sì, è fiQuissimo avere una boccetta a specchio, ma il fatto di non vedere quanto prodotto mi resta da usare mi scoccia parecchio.

What do I think about this new system?

Honestly, it's the top coat that makes the difference. I cannot say anything about the base coat, because it dries slowly and there's no difference between this base and another base coat. It is not like using an aqua base or a grip base before layering an holographic nail polish. Maybe I've bought a silly bottle. It happens, because essence's shelves are always messed up by ill-behaved people (not only teenagers. I saw with my own eyes growed up woman trying blushes, mascaras and lipglosses on their face "because there are not testers!" ). But I've layered the nail polish over my regular base and over his own base and there's any difference at all.
Nail polishes are just nail polishes. They work well as always (essence is a low-budget brand but produces high-quality products!). The key of this system is just the top coat, that's all. It makes a real difference protecting my nails and it works nicely even over other nail polishes (I''ve use it over a neon one and it is amazing!).

Qual è la la mia opinione a riguardo?

In tutta onestà, è il top coat a fare la differenza. Non mi esprimo sulla base. Asciuga con lentezza e non vedo differenze con la mia solita base. Non è come usare una base acquosa per gli smalti olografici. Fa il suo dovere da base, punto. Forse m'è capitata la boccetta sfigata. Succede, perché gli stand essence sono razziati e saccheggiati da consumatori incivili (non solo adolescenti, sapete? Ho visto con questi occhi anche donne adulte provare i prodotti chiusi sulla loro pelle perché non ci sono i tester!). Ma ho provato lo smalto sopra la mia solita base e non ho riscontrato particolari difformità. Anzi.
Gli smalti sono buoni smalti come siamo abituate a vederne da essence (che sarà anche una marca a basso budget, ma ha prodotti di buona qualità), ma la differenza la fa il top coat. Crea davvero uno scudo sulle mie unghie e le protegge da tutto. E funziona anche con gli altri smalti (l'ho steso sul neon che indosso adesso e sono sbalordita!). Il mio consiglio è fare razzia. Non ve ne pentirete.

First Monday in a month, it's time to look at the stars and descovering my idea for the Gemini constellation. Are you ready?

Post programmato perché me ne starò bel bella lontana dalla tastiera (e da internet) fino a mercoledì (gran bella invenzione, i ponti!), ma avrete un paio di post a tenervi compagnia. Poi non dite che non vi voglio bene!

Primo lunedì del mese, prendete la vostra sciarpa ché ce ne andiamo a dare un'occhiata alle stelle. La costellazione del mese è quella dei Gemelli. Pronte?

Gemini constellation is a large rectangle between Taurus and Cancer, and it symbolize the Dioscuri, Castor and Pollux, the two sons of Zeus. According to greek mythology, in the same day Sparta's queen Leda slept with Zeus (in the guise of a swan) and his husband Thyndareus. Leda gave birth four children: Pollux and Elena were son of Zeus, whereas Castor and Clytemnestra were son of Thyndareus (mortals). Castor and Pollux were very close friends and when Castor died, Pollux begged his father Zeus to share immortality with his brother. Zeus placed the two brothers in the sky, creating Gemini constellation.

Gemini people are very clever and funny. They are the most inquiring personalities of the Zodiac, but because they change opinion very fast, they would look like a two-faced person. Their lucky colour is yellow and because they seem like a whirpool, I depicted them using a vortex shape.

La costellazione dei Gemelli è un rettangolo ciccione che si trova tra il Toro ed il Cancro. Rappresenta la coppia dei Dioscuri, Castore e Polluce, figli di Zeus e Leda, regina di Sparta. Stando alla maggioranza dei mitografi, Leda ebbe un rapporto con Zeus (travestito da cigno) e con suo marito Tindaro nello stesso giorno. Ne nacquero quattro figli: Polluce ed Elena (quella di Troia) da Zeus, Castore e Clitemnestra da Tindaro. I due fratelli erano legatissimi e quando Castore morì, Polluce prego il padre di poter condividere l'immortalità con suo fratello. Ecco come nacque la costellazione dei Gemelli.

I Gemelli sono dei personaggi. Intelligentissimi, curiosi, e divertenti, sono persone alla mano che vivono la vita con leggerezza. Data la loro natura doppia, possono essere ipocriti ed ambigui. Il loro colore fortunato è il giallo, e siccome un Gemelli assomiglia ad un vortice ambulante, ho scelto questa forma e ho realizzato una water marble ad hoc.

First of all, I started using the new essence the gel. I followed the instruction carefully and you could read my opinions about this new system very soon. The colour at the base of this water marble is essence the gel #39 blue bubble di blue, a light blue crème. I poured a few drops of #39 blue bubble di blue, China Glaze White on White and essence the gel #28 hello sunshine, a yellow satin. I've created a bull's eye for every nail and I finshed my nail art adding a thin layer of top coat.

Premessa: ho avuto modo di provare il nuovo sistema essence the gel e a breve avrete la mia opinione al riguardo. Ho scelto di usare come base proprio essence the gel #39 blue bubble di blue, una lacca celeste. Ho versato in un bicchiere d'acqua alcune gocce di blue bubble di blue, China Glaze White on White e essence the gel #28 hello sunshine, che, a dispetto dello strillo THE MATT sul cappuccio, è un satin giallo. Ho creato un bersaglio per ogni unghia ed ho terminato con un velo di top coat.

The yellow satin turned into a peasoup green (I don't like this shade so much), but these polishes spread very nicely into the water and I like this wm. Try them, they are a cheaper option!

To do a water marble do you prefere using regular polishes or a cheaper version?

Personally, I don't use high-level brands or nail polishes hard to find (exception to the rule here), I just use brand that works with this technique among my regular polishes.

Hello sunshine s'è mischiato con il celeste, ed ha dato vita ad un verde zuppa di piselli che mi convince poco, ma il risultato, nel suo complesso, mi piace molto. Questi smalti si spandono che è una bellezza in acqua, un'alternativa davvero economica!

Quali smalti usate per le vostre water marble? Versioni più economiche, oppure va bene qualsiasi boccetta, basta che si apra?

Ad essere onesta, e salvo alcuni casi, non mi piace usare smalti costosi o difficili da reperire; è vero, però, che lo smalto deve aprirsi, senza se e senza ma...

I should have call this post «Kneel, humans!», because I've used what I call the Loki's shades (spring green and gold), but whatever.

Ladies and girls, tonight @ Chez Moi Francine I want to share with you my entry for the last week's episode of Finishpedia. I know, I'm late, but would you please consider this post like a free ride hangin' on the bumper, just like Marty McFly does on "Back to the Future", but more classy and girly, of course!

Today we're about to take a closer look to toppers, those top coats you have to put over you regular polish to achieve particular effects. You could easily find some of these topper nowadays, and if I'm correct, essence released four or five topper just this spring. Check them out! I chose to show you a topper from last spring (2014), essence METAL glam gold topper #01 Steel-ing the scene.

Avrei anche potuto ribattezzare questo post "Kneel, humans!", visto che i colori usati sono quelli di Loki, ma vabbé. Pazienza!

Signore e signorine all'ascolto, buona serata! Eccezionalmente di mercoledì, salto sul carrozzone della Finishpedia. Fate conto che io mi sia attaccata al parafanghi dell'auto sullo skateboard. Un po' come Marty McFly, ma più femminile. E con le unghie pittate!

Oggi parliamo di toppers, quella categoria di smalti che sono nati per andare sopra agli smalti classici e dare loro una marcia in più. In commercio se ne trovano a carrettate (e se non sbaglio essence ne ha fatti uscire una sbadilata giusto questa primavera!), io ho ripescato un topper della scorsa primavera (2014) essence METAL glam gold topper #01 Steel-ing the scene.

essence METAL glam gold topper #01 Steel-ing the scene is a top coat with golden flakes. The flakes have different sizes, so you could easily use them like mosaic's tiles. I prefer follow a gradually pace, to avoid a monstrous and sticky blob over my nails. A never-ending work in progress.

To show properly this topper, I put it over a vertical gradient I made with Sinful Colors Innocent (fresh green crème) and Revlon Colorstay #230 Bonsai (green base with golden shimmer). I've add a couople of layers of essence METAL blah blah.

essence METAL glam gold topper #01 Steel-ing the scene è un top coat trasparente con delle scaglie di foglia d'oro in sospensione. Le scaglie hanno dimensioni differenti e sono luminosissime, ma se posso darvi un consiglio, è meglio andarci caute con le passate, o rischiate di ritorvarvi con un mostro smappazzoide sulle unghie.

Per mostrarvi meglio questo topper, ho deciso di piazzarlo sopra ad una gradient verticale (non proprio riuscitissima, ma vabbé), che ho realizzato con Sinful Colors Innocent e Revlon Colorstay #230 Bonsai.

I should be honest, and say to you that I don't like buying toppers, because I KNOW that I'll use them a couple of times and no more. I purchased this one beacause it's very particular and I do not have anything like.

I'm pretty sure you have two or three bottles of toppers in your stash.
How do you use them? To give a particular sparkle to an ordinary colour or do you like brighten your black nail polish up?

I love quick solutions, and my slogan should be less is more. This is a satisfactory arrangement, don't you agree?

Ad essere onestissima, cerco di evitare l'acquisto dei topper, che alla fine si usano una volta, due al massimo, e poi finiscono in fondo al cassetto. Ho preso questo qui perché non avevo davvero nulla di simile - ed io e la foglia d'oro siamo, come dire?, in antitesi totale.

Sono sicurissima che avrete un paio di topper nella vostra collezione. Come li usate, di solito? Per dare brio ad uno smalto magari un po' meh, oppure per ravvivare un classico nero?

Io sono un tipo spiccio, che meno cose mette sulle unghie, meno tempo aspetta e più è felice, quindi... less is more è il mio motto, come diceva qualcuno, ma credo che questa soluzione sia più che praticabile. Non trovate anche voi?

Happy Tuesday! How are you? This afternoon we have a lovely sun shining into a deep blue sky. Today is the 2768th anniversary of Rome and I would share with you my first stamping attempt.

2768 ab Urbe Condita. I festeggiamenti in città prevedono una Notte Bianca lungo i Fori. La salterò, ché a me la folla non piace proprio, ma non potevo esimermi dal mostrarvi il mio primo (riuscito) tentativo di stamping.

I used ILNP Neon Rosebud as a base, because Roma's shade are gold and red. Gold for the Tiber's golden waters, and red was the colour of emperors in ancient Rome. Neon Rosebud was the right choice.

My husband gave me some MoYou London plates as Easter present. I've chosen to start with MoYou Pro XL 07 and using essenc stamp me! white as stamping polish.
What I have to say?
I'm amazed by this gorgeous result!

Hurrah! Hurrah!!

Mi serviva qualcosa di rosso e dorato, i colori di Roma - il colore degli imperatori e del potere in generale il primo, e quello del biondo Tevere il secondo. ILNP Neon Rosebud era la scelta giusta!

Per Pasqua mio marito mi ha regalato alcune matrici di MoYou London, così ho deciso di provare la Pro 07, usando essence stamp me! white.
Che vi devo dire?
Sono stupefatta io stessa!!

EVVIVA! Evviva!!

I know I have to make some practice, but it was SO easy and SO neat. Like shooting to a sitting duck. I love the plates, I love the stamper (I picked the rectangular one). They made my stamping life effortless, and even a simple crème works very well.
Brace yourself, ladies and gentelmen. My stamping life is just started!!

C'è ancora un bel po' di pratica da fare, ma è stato tutto così facile e così pulito da commuovermi, quasi. Adoro le matrici, adoro il tampone (ho preso quello rettangolare), rendono la vita una passeggiata. Persino le semplici lacche funzionano che è una meraviglia! E adesso che ho preso il via... affari vostri!!

Rome is my city. A piece of my soul. I think I could live everywhere with the people I love, BUT I'll miss my city. Here is where I was born, here is where I live, here is where my roots are. And this silly stamping manicure is how I want to show my love for Rome.

[Zōdiakos] - Aquarius (Age of)

Hi everyone!
Today is the first Monday of February and it's time to share with you the second nail art of Zōdiakos inspired by the versatile Sign of Aquarius.

Aquarius is is one of the oldest of the recognized constellations along the zodiac and his constellation lies between Capriconus and Pisces. It's identified with Ganymede, the young son of Trojan king Tros, who was taken to Mount Olympus by Zeus to act as cup-carrier to the gods.
Aquarius is the Air's(element) Fixed (quality). A Fixed Sign lies in the middle of a season and has stabilization, determination, depth and persistence. She's powerful and often achieve much more that other Quality, but she's often inflexible, rigid, stubborn.
Aquarius people are cool, logical, innovator, unselfish, quirky, unconventional and idealist. They are not the perfect lovers, maybe, but they're the perfect friends you could ever conceive. I love Aquarius people. My dad is an Aquarius, a perfect living paradigm even if he doesn't like astrology and horoscopes. Funny, it isn't?

For this nail art I made a random sponging galaxy.

I started with Sally Hansen Hard as Nails base coat and then I painted my nails with China Glaze Snow (2 coats). I cutted a bath sponge in pieces and I randomly dabbed these colours:

Sinful Colors Boom Boom (magenta red), Sinful Colors Hazard (orange peach), Sinful Colors Let's Meet (yellow shimmer), Sinful Colors Innocent (green apple shimmer), Sinful Colors Sweet Nothing (pale blue crème), Revlon COLORSTAY 180 Indigo Night (indigo crème) and Deborah 7Days Long 852 (grape crème). Then I used a layer of ILNP My Private Rainbow (L) (linear holografic top coat) and with a dotting tool and China Glaze White On White (sheer white) I painted some dots, pretending they are be stars. I sealed my nail art with essence nail art sealing top coat.

Ciao a tutti e benvenuti ad un'altra puntata di Zōdiakos. Oggi va di scena un Segno d'Aria, quell'Acquario la cui Era stiamo tutti aspettando che inizi da un bel pezzo (Non sono sicura che l'italiano contempli questa costruzione. Chiudete un occhio, grazie!).
La Costellazione dell'Aquario si trova tra il Capricorno ed i Pesci. Ricorda il giovane Ganimede, figlio del re di Ilio, che Zeus, tramutatosi in aquila, rapì sulle montagne e portò sull'Olimpo come coppiere per gli dei (da qui, la brocca simbolo della Costellazione). Una versione del mito vuole Eos come rapitrice del fanciullo, di cui si era invaghita, rapito a sua volta da Zeus e assunto come coppiere divino. Come siano andate le cose, lo sanno solo loro. La Costellazione dell'Aquila, però, è sempre accanto a quella dell'Aquario. Dovesse ripensarci e scendere sulla terra...

L'Aquario (no, non è un errore. Parlando della Costellazione, la c va in pensione) è il Fisso d'Aria. Un Segno Fisso si trova al centro della stagione ed ha come qualità peculiare un'incrollabile volontà, stabilità e fermezza interiore. Spesso riesce ad ottenere quello che vuole, ma il rovescio della medaglia è dato dal possedere un carattere che spesso sfocia nell'eccessiva rigidità. Un Aquario è pieno di ottime qualità: razionali, innovatori, razionali, altruisti, idealisti.

Magari non saranno gli amanti ideali, ma sono di sicuro i migliori amici che si possa desiderare.
Mio padre è un Aquario (un paradigma vivente di come dovrebbe essere un Aquario, per giunta!), ma lui non ama zodiaco ed oroscopi. Anzi, non ci crede proprio! Strana la vita, vero?

Ispirandomi all'Erà dell'Aquario che stiamo tutti aspettando, ho creato una galaxy spugnando i colori in maniera casuale. Quasi alla cieca. Sono partita usando come base Sally Hansen Hard as Nails base coat. Poi ho steso due mani di China Glaze Snow. Una volta sciutto ho preso una spugna da bagno, ne ho ricavato alcuni pezzi ed ho tamponato i seguenti colori: Sinful Colors Boom Boom (rosso), Sinful Colors Hazard (arancio), Sinful Colors Let's Meet (giallo shimmer), Sinful Colors Innocent (verde mela shimmer), Sinful Colors Sweet Nothing (celeste crème), Revlon COLORSTAY 180 Indigo Night (crème indaco), Deborah 7Days Long 852 (viola uva). Ho steso una mano di ILNP My Private Rainbow (L) (un top coat olografico) e con un dotter e China Glaze White On White (bianco sheer) ho dipinto dei punti. Dovrebbero essere delle stelle. Voi chiudete un occhio, vero?

Ho sigillato tutto con essence nail art sealing top coat, che stavolta ha fatto il bravo e non ha sbavato ovunque.
